Digital libraries and Web 3.0. The CallimachusDL approach

    Get PDF
The constantly increasing volume of information available on the Internet is changing the forms of clas sification and access to data. Given the immense collection of information stored on the Internet, digital libraries constitute a fundamental subject of research. Among the challenges of classifying, locating and accessing knowledge in digital libraries tackling with the huge amount of resources the Web provides, improving digital libraries by means of different strategies, particularly, using semantics remains a prom ising and interesting approach. In this paper, CallimachusDL is presented, a semantics based digital library which provides faceted search, enhanced access possibilities and a proof of concept implementa tion. CallimachusDL represents a novel approach to digital libraries, integrating social web and multime dia elements in a semantically annotated repository. The results of the implementation indicate that the features proposed in CallimachusDL are encouraging and extendable in the use of digital libraries.Publicad

"Oral & Writing Skills" course in Computer Science Bachelor Degree adapted to European Higher Education Area

    Get PDF
The current work presents the design of a subject entitled "Oral & Writing Skills" corresponding to the new Computer Science degree adapted to European Higher Education area recommendations. The subject, which will be put into practice for the first time in the 2008/09 academic year, implies an important change of trends in relation to the development of the spectrum of competencies within the content of the degree. Without doubt, the way the new design will be realized in the long term indicates an adaptation to the Spanish curricular initiatives and recommendations, both European and International.Publicad

Publicad

An integrated methodology for customer relationship management customization

    Get PDF
The importance and presence of technological solutions in organizations supporting CRM are a vital business fact from the late nineties. Presently, the manufacturers figure in the market has dramatically decreased because of continuous takeovers and merges, but it has on the other hand gained momentum because of the sudden open-source and on-demand solutions appearance. In this scope, a unified methodology centered on CRM solutions is of paramount importance since it has traditionally been linked to either system integration or overall solution design. Based on the two de-facto complementary standards for the implementation and development of Information Systems, namely the ESA and Dyché CRM systems implementation methodology, in this paper, we provide a CRM business solutions customization methodology which pertains independently to the integration and tool maker perspective

ENERMONGRID: Intelligent Energy Monitoring, Visualization and Fraud Detection for Smart Grids

    Get PDF
The current obsolete electricity network is being transformed into net an advanced, digitalized and more efficient one known as Smart Grid. The deployment of an Automatic Metering Infrastructure will make an unseen quantity of rich information available in near real-time, processed to make decisions for the optimal energy production, generation, distribution, and consumption. This document presents an analysis of the ENERMONGRID tool, a tool used for intelligent energy monitoring, data visualization and fraud detection in electric networks

BMR: Benchmarking Metrics Recommender for personnel issues in software development proyects

    Get PDF
This paper presents an architecture which applies document similarity measures to the documentation produced during the phases of software development in order to generate recommendations of process and people metrics for similar projects. The application makes a judgment of similarity of the Service Provision Offer (SPO) document of a new proposed project to a collection of Project History Documents (PHD), stored in a repository of unstructured texts. The process is carried out in three stages: firstly, clustering of the Offer document with the set of PHDs which are most similar to it; this provides the initial indication of whether similar previous projects exist, and signifies similarity. Secondly, determination of which PHD in the set is most comparable with the Offer document, based on various parameters: project effort, project duration (time), project resources (members/size of team), costs, and sector(s) involved, indicating comparability of projects. The comparable parameters are extracted using the GATE Natural Language Processing architecture. Lastly, a recommendation of metrics for the new project is made, which is based on the transferability of the metrics of the most similar and comparable PHD extracted, here referred to as recommendation. This work is supported by the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Tourism, and Commerce under the project SONAR (TSI-340000-2007-212), GODO2 (TSI- 020100-2008-564) and SONAR2 (TSI-020100-2008- 665) and the MID-CBR project of the Spanish Committee of Education & Science (TIN2006-15140- C03-02).Publicad

Competency assessment : integrating COCOMO II and people-CMM for estimation improvement

    Get PDF
"Human factor" is one of the most relevant and crucial aspects of software development projects management. Aiming at the performance improvement for software processes in organizations, a new model has been developed to diagnose people related processes. This new model is People-CMM and represents a complementary solution to CMM. On the other hand, existing estimation models in Software Engineering perfectly integrate those aspects related to personnel’s technical and general competence, but fail to integrate competence and performance measurement instruments when it comes to determine the precise value for each of the factors involved in the estimation process. After reviewing the already deployed initiatives and recommendations for competence measurement in the industrial environment and the most relevant estimation methods for personnel factors used in software development projects, this article presents a recommendation for the integration of each of the "human factor" related metrics in COCOMO II with the management tools proposed by People-CMM, which are widely implemented by existing commercial tools.Publicad

Software engineering 2.0: a social global repository based on semantic annotation and social web for knowledge management

Proceedings of: First World Summit on the Knowledge Society, (WSKS 2008), September 24-26, 2008, Athens (Greece)The effective management of the software development process has become an essential for business survival in an ever more competitive industry. In order to gain business strengths from the development process, organizations need to carry out software development in the most efficient manner possible, avoiding redundancy and time losses. This paper presents an architecture which combines the strengths of two technologies, Web 2.0 and the Semantic Web, as a solution to reuse and extrapolate knowledge and software products across projects and organizations.Publicad

The IT Crowd: Are we stereotypes?

The power of technology and its impact on the average IT employee's working life has led to new job titles and responsibilities. IT workers' increased visibility also correlates to a new social image reflected in the media. The authors completed an empirical study to examine how IT workers are portrayed, particularly on television, and the resulting perception of the profession, which future IT professionals will likely reflect
